VERTIGO Vs VOLVER

Last weekend I visited the exhibition of Saul Bass at Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. Saul Bass was the illustrator of posters for many films of Alfred Hitchcock and also Otto Preminger. I could see there the poster of the movie “Vertigo” (or “From the Dead”, as the film was known here in Spain). (Pictures from those exhibition here: LINK)
Traveling back home, I remembered the plot of “Vertigo”: Judy (Kim Novak) pretends to be Madeleine, a bewitched woman wife of a millionaire who is allied with Judy. Both women use Scottie (James Stewart) to develop a plot that lead to the murder of the true wife. Scottie falls in love with Madeleine. At the end of the film, after the murder, Scottie requests Judy to characterize as the late Madeleine due to the strong resemblance between the two women. And here is when Judy appears at the bottom of the room, in front of the door, blurred like a ghost, as Madeleine returned “from the dead”.
It´s well known Almodóvar's admiration for Mr. Hitchcock… when I went to the cinema to see “Volver”, a “Vertigo” scene came into my head, when the supposed dead Irene (Carmen Maura) appears, also from the dead, to Agustina (Blanca Portillo) at the end of the corridor just in front of the main door.
Coincidence? Inspiration? A wink to Alfred? What do you think?

This year I have participated in this event in benefit of "Proyecto Hombre" individually and as a Zaragoza de Luxe***** team member.

Postcards from Limbo is a charity exhibition promoted by Versus Studio. The postcards sales profits goes to Proyecto Hombre Foundation.
The event lasts three days and you can find postcards created by emerging and renowned artists.
The first day (Friday) each card is priced at 40 €, the second (Saturday) 30 € and the third (Sunday) 20 €.

Photos from exhibition: CLIK HERE

Visitor can buy for the same price, a postcard from an established artist or emerging artist, since the works are not signed in the front, the signature is hidden in the back of the artwork.

As J4M, I contributed with a trilogy of postcards: "3 Audreys", an Audrey Hepburn icon decontextualization, made with mixed technique and an integrated USB flash memory containing music by Bahuaus, ad hoc to the artwork.

As a Zaragoza de Luxe***** Team member, a project I lead with Fernando Defboy since 1999, we contributed with two postcards, also made in mixed technique.
First one is based on the sketch we did for the model of the Church of Santa Monica surrounded by flying saucers, part of our 2003 exhibition at the "At the Border" contest, organized by Zaragoza Council.

The second postcard is an image of a Courreges model with the old logo printed in the uniform dress of the Alfonso I street Merchants Association of Zaragoza, an image we also used in one of our videos for this exhibition in 2004.

All postcards were sold.
Thanks very much!

¡Muchas gracias!

ETERNALLY WET / ETERNAMENTE HÚMEDA

10 years ago, in 2002, as part of the team "Dabadaba Remixers Project" (formed by Fernando Defboy and myself), we experimentally remixed the track "Eternally Innocent" by Fangoria, from his album "Naturaleza Muerta (Still life)".
The musical idea was that there was no music, based on a remix made by KLF some years before on the Pet Shop Boys track It Must be Obvious (UFO Mix).
Instead of instruments, you could hear noises of ships taking off and all kinds of other spatial sounds.
Subterfuge Records kindly provide us the voice of Alaska (the singer) and we simulated the crime of Hitchcock's film Psycho, garnishing audio with single words and phrases spoken by Alaska herself during interviews and TV shows.

Finally our remix was not published in Fangoria's EP "Eternally Innocent", but the label released a new CD called "RITMIC.POP" with some Spanish groups rarities, and they decided to include "Eternally Wet", that was the title we gave to this imagined performance under the shower.

Some months later we could talk about this remix with Fangoria in the dressing room after a concert in Fraga.
Here you can see that moment.
