Halloween is here again.

My theater group “Plan C” have prepared a sketches performance built around mysterious and bizarre characters.

I did this poster for that event. Of course, typography is “Hitchcock”, very suitable for the topic.

De nuevo Halloween.

El grupo de teatro al que pertenezco, Plan C, hemos preparado un show de sketches basado en misteriosos y extraños personajes.

Hice este poster para esta actuación. Vuelvo a utilizar la tipografía "Hitchcock", muy apropiada para esta temática.

THREE POSTERS / TRES CARTELES

Leaving me go by my fascination on Saul Bass, I designed three posters for theater plays inspired in his work.

The first one is "The Door", where I used the door by Chicho Ibáñez Serrador in "Historias para no Dormir" (Stories to not sleep), and served to announce the play by the theater course in which I participated.

The second one is for the new play by Javier Ercilla, "Poe Improvisado" (Improvised Poe).

Finally, the third one is for the last show of my theater group "Plan C", that will de launched before summer vacation. A show with sketches and comic impros called "Estreno Mundial" (World Premiere).

Dejándome llevar por mi fascinación ante la obra de Saul Bass, realicé tres carteles para teatro inspirados en ésta.
El primero es "La Puerta", donde utilicé la puerta de "Historias para no Dormir" de Chicho Ibáñez Serrador, y que sirvió para anunciar las representaciones del curso de teatro en el que participé.

El segundo es para el nuevo espectáculo de Javier Ercilla, "Poe Improvisado".

Y el tercero es para la última función de mi grupo de teatro, "Plan C",  antes de vacaciones de verano, un show de sketches e impros cómicas llamado "Estreno Mundial".

POSTCARDS FROM LIMBO 2013 / POSTALES DESDE EL LIMBO 2013

Continuing on the last year same line, this time I presented three zombified portraits of film icons.
If last year was the turn of Audrey Hepburn, this year is Sara Montiel´s, rest in peace.

Using the same technique as the former artworks, this photograph did not go unnoticed for visitors, causing a smile at the beginning that turn into a face of surprise and horror later. 

Each work is accompanied by a USB memory with images of the "making off" and a sound composition (I refuse to call it musical composition), based on a dialogue between Bárbara Rey and Sara Montiel extracted from a Saturday night TV show.

Thanks a lot to the buyers, you know that the amount of the sale goes to Proyecto Hombre.

Continuando en la línea del año pasado, presenté tres retratos de iconos del celuloide zombificados. Si el año pasado fue el turno de Audrey Hepburn, este año era el de Sara Montiel. Que en paz descanse.
Usando la misma técnica que en otras obras, esta fotografía intervenida no pasó desapercibida para el visitante, provocando primero una sonrisa para pasar en algún momento a una cara de espanto y horror.

Cada obra va acompañada de una memoria USB con imágenes del "cómo se hizo" y una composición sonora (me niego a llamarla composición musical), basada en un dialogo entre Bárbara Rey y Sara Montiel extraída de un programa de variedades de sábado noche.

Muchas gracias a los compradores, ya sabéis que el importe de la venta va destinado a Proyecto Hombre.

Postales desde el Limbo exhibition

TYPEWRITTEN DRAWINGS 1980-1982 / DIBUJOS MECANOGRAFIADOS 1980-1982

"Drawings" made with an Olivetti typewriter between 1980 and 1982.
Some years later these drawings were made by advanced computers in continuous perforated paper as an evidence of the technological power of the machine.

Gioconda is Sad. 1981 / La Gioconda está triste. 1981

One of the drawing has been inspired by the short film of Antonio Mercero "The Gioconda is sad," script by José Luis Garci, that deeply impressed me when I was a teenager. Another series was inspired by the original film "Planet of the Apes".

Today you can make them online on websites that convert images to ASCII document. For example [THIS].

Moái Isla de Pascua. 1981 / Easter Island Statue. 1981

"Dibujos" con una máquina de escribir Olivetti Pluma que realicé entre 1980 y 1982.
Años más tarde estos dibujos los hacían las computadoras de los grandes bancos en papel perforado continuo como evidencia de la potencia tecnológica de la máquina.

Uno de los dibujos mecanografiados está inspirado en el cortometraje de Antonio Mercero basado en una historia escrita de José Luis Garci, "La Gioconda está triste", que me impresionó muchísimo
Otros de ellos, la serie Liberty, está inspirado en el film original de El Planeta de los Simios.

MÁXIMA OF THE NETHERLANDS ZOMBIFIED / MAXIMA DE HOLANDA ZOMBIFICADA

Customized digital photography, printed on graseproof paper and subsequent treatment with glue.
This work is based on an official portrait of the future Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, daughter of a minister in the government of the argentinean dictator Videla. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands will abdicate next April 30th in favor of his son Willem-Alexander and then Maxima will become queen consort.
Maxima is a princess who has won the affection of most od the Dutch for their friendliness, beauty and poise. In any case I want to offend anybody with this work, I just pretend to decontextualize the clichee as I have done with other characters before.

Fotografía digital intervenida, impresa en papel vegetal y tratamiento posterior con cola. Esta obra está basada en una fotografía oficial de la futura reina Máxima de Holanda, hija de un ministro del dictador Videla (Argentina). La reina Beatriz de los Países Bajos abdicará el 30 de abril de 2013 en favor de su hijo Guillermo Alejandro, y Máxima se convertirá en reina consorte del país. Máxima es una princesa que se ha ganado el afecto de la mayoría de holandeses por su simpatía, belleza y saber estar. En ningún caso quiero ofenderla con esta obra, solo descontextualizar la imagen cliché, como ya he hecho con otros personajes.

KING, REPUBLIC

Experimenting with collages, I made this artwork for a group exhibition promoted by Taller26 in the social network Arstudents.net, held in Puerto Venecia (Zaragoza). For this composition, I used images from the Google search engine, which once composed and resized with Photoshop, were printed separately and superimposed and embossed on greaseproof paper also printed.

The work was titled "King Republic", and is based on an elephant hunt in Botswana (Africa) in which King Juan Carlos I of Spain participated in 2012, with great controversy in the media.

Experimentando con collages, realicé esta obra para una exposición colectiva dentro de la red social Arstudents.net y promovida por Taller26 en Puerto Venecia, Zaragoza.
Para la composición, utilicé imágenes extraídas del buscador Google, que una vez compuestas y redimensionadas en photoshop, fueron impresas separadamente y superpuestas en relieve sobre papel vegetal también impreso.

La obra la titulé "King, Republic", y está basada en una cacería de elefantes en Africa en la que participó en 2012 el Rey de España, Juan Carlos I, con gran polémica en los medios.

EXHIBITION TRIBUTE TO CHAVELA VARGAS / EXPOSICIÓN TRIBUTO A CHAVELA VARGAS

Chavela Vargas (Mexican Singer 1919 - 2012)

After several sketches and three works, according with the "3 Audreys" I presented in "Postcards from the Limbo", I could select just one for the tribute exhibition to Chavela Vargas in "Cruces" Madrid, and I called it "Cross the Ocean".

A Chavela Vargas from the dark side can be seen, a dark side emphasized by his eyes in relief. Chavela invite us to cross the Ocean, to cross also the border into the forbidden symbolized here by tequila shots.

Mixed technique: Collage using acetate, Ink jet printing, Glue, Staples and Plastic eyes from a Low Cost chinese market.

Chavela Vargas (cantante 1919 - 2012)

Después de varios bocetos y tres obras, en línea con las 3 Audreys presentadas en Postales desde el Limbo, seleccioné solamente una para la exposición homenaje a Chavela Vargas en "Cruces", Madrid. La titulé "Cruza el Océano".

Una Chavela Vargas desde su lado oscuro, enfatizando por sus ojos en relieve, nos invita a cruzar el océano, a traspasar la frontera, a adentrarte en lo prohibido simbolizado por vasos de tequila.

Técnica mixta: collage utilizando acetato, impresión de chorro de tinta, cola, grapas y ojos de manualidades del Todo a 100.
