Today I had the opportunity to visit the new lift to the tower of the Basilica del Pilar. Modern, fast, glazed … digital.
I remembered that years ago, in 2004, I took some pictures of the old lift, anagogic, and shortly after we participated in a radio program, with the
Stakytch’s, leading the “Retroturismo” section, where we recommended that visit.
The previous lift, manufactured by Giesa in 1967, had a 60’s “Formica” chair with today’s newspaper.
There was an intercom on the keypad, and a radio. I imagine that the intercom was no longer used and was replaced instead by a mobile phone or a Walkie Talkie.
The air conditioning consisted of a built-in fan, which did not come as standard according to the picture, as well as the intercom and radio, surely a breach of technical legal rules.
The keypad, which today has only button up or down, it was more complicated than the one of Empire State and you could stop the lift at several heights.
“Rise and Fall” said and old sign, which was always a relief ti the visitor (“We can go back”).
The € 1.50 indicating the sign in 2004 is now exactly twice, € 3.00, we have to repay the new facility.
Two posters in the entrance hall to the elevator say “glass cockpit will protect you against wind and rain”, and tranquilized the tourists who known the icy north wind in this region called “cierzo”.
Now it is very hot on top, the windows closed all the lookout. Before there was natural ventilation and the crystals were the guest book where visitors recorded their name with a key, now armored.
Everything has been renovated since leaving the elevator to the top of the tower, lots of glass and wood lining all interior walls have erased the feeling of stay at a historic building, that appeared a few decades ago as an attraction worthy of a luna park.
Hace unos días tuve la oportunidad de visitar el nuevo ascensor que sube a la torre de la Basílica del Pilar. Moderno, veloz, acristalado… digital.
Recordé que hace años, en 2004, hice unas fotografías del antiguo ascensor y poco después participamos con los
Starkytch en un programa de radio, en la sección de “Retroturismo”, donde recomendábamos esta visita.
El ascensor anterior, fabricado por GIESA en 1967, disponía de silla de formica donde no faltaba sobre ella el periódico del día.
Había un interfono sobre la botonera, además de una radio. Imagino que el interfono ya no se utilizaba y había sido sustituido en su lugar por el teléfono móvil o el Walkie Talkie.
La climatización consistía en un ventilador incorporado, que no venía de serie a juzgar por la imagen, lo mismo que el interfono y la radio, incumpliendo seguramente algún real decreto sobre aparatos de elevación.
La botonera, que hoy solamente tiene botón de subida o bajada, era más complicada que la del Empire State y podías parar el ascensor a otras alturas.
“Subida y bajada” rezaba el antiguo cartel, algo que siempre es un alivio al recordar al turista que podía volver a bajar.
Los 1,50 € que indicaba el cartel en 2004 hoy es exactamente el doble, 3,00 €, habrá que amortizar la nueva instalación.
Dos carteles en el vestíbulo de la entrada del ascensor indican “Hay que cabina de cristal que protege del viento y de la lluvia” reconfortan al turista que ya ha conocido el cierzo helado de esta región.
Si antes era claustrofobico subir en el ascensor, ahora manda el vértigo al tener toda la caja acristalada.
Hace mucho calor en lo alto, los cristales cierran todo el mirador. Antes había ventilación natural y los cristales eran el libro de visitas donde los turistas grababan su nombre con una llave, ahora son blindados.
Todo ha sido renovado desde la salida del ascensor hasta la cúspide de la torre, mucho cristal y madera forrando todos los paramentos interiores han borrado esa sensación de subir a un edificio “histórico” que hace unas décadas se presentaba como una atracción digna de un parque de atracciones.
